Pauline Marois was whisked off the stage during her victory speech Tuesday night after a man opened fire outside the hall where she was speaking. CBC's Ioanna Roumeliotis describes what happened

At 11:42 p.m. inside a downtown Montreal theatre, Parti Québécois Leader Pauline Marois took to the stage to claim her win after a hard-fought election campaign.

Her supporters were jubilant as they listened to what was supposed to be a historic speech from the woman soon to become Quebec's first female premier.

Soon after Marois began talking, the first signs of trouble appeared as she was quickly whisked off the stage. Outside the theatre a man lay dead and another wounded. The alleged shooter was later arrested by police.
