Quebec police investigate after man, woman found dead in Montérégie home
Local police found the bodies of a 56-year-old woman and a 49-year-old man in Contrecoeur home
Quebec provincial police are investigating the death of a 56-year-old woman found dead in a Montérégie home as a homicide. Police believe the 49-year-old man suspected in her death then killed himself.
Lisette Corbeil and David Joly's bodies were found Wednesday morning in a home on Route 132 in Contrecoeur, about 60 km northeast of Montreal.
Officers from the regional Richelieu Saint-Laurent police service made the discovery.
Corbeil is the 12th woman to be killed in Quebec this year.
"Investigators met with people in the family and most notably people in the neighbourhood. The information will be gathered by investigators in an attempt to understand the circumstances of what happened," said Valérie Beauchamp, a spokesperson with the Sûreté du Québec.
The SQ is not confirming the nature of Joly and Corbeil's relationship.
Xavier Barsalou Duval, the Bloc MP who represents the area, said he met them on several occasions.
"Lisette Corbeil and David Joly were both engaged citizens," Duval wrote on Facebook, adding: "I cannot hide the fact that this is a shock to me."
Autopsies will be performed in Montreal this week.
