Woman dead after Brandon hospital fall
Health officials in Brandon are investigating after a woman fell four floors to her death at a city hospital on the morning of New Year's Eve.
A number of people and staff witnessed the woman fall from a fourth floor atrium balcony at the Brandon Health Centre and are receiving grief counselling, Brandon Regional Health Authority CEO Carmel Olson said Wednesday.
Police were called in but say they do not suspect foul play in the woman's death.
The health authority is treating the death as a critical incident, and is actively investigating how she fell.
The internal probe will include interviews with staff, and witnesses and will look at processes in the hospital, Olson said.
She said the investigation would also review patient safety in the hospital.
The Health Authority is not releasing the name of the person who fell.
