Winnipeg driver finds armed man sleeping inside his parked vehicle
31-year-old man was found in car with machete, airsoft gun, police say
A Winnipeg man faces multiple weapons charges after he was found sleeping in a parked vehicle, with a machete and an air pistol in plain view, by the vehicle's owner, police say.
The owner called police after he spotted a broken window and a man sleeping inside his parked vehicle, which was at the intersection of Home Street and Notre Dame Avenue, as he returned to it around 3 p.m. Friday.
The man inside the vehicle had an edged weapon and what appeared to be a firearm, police said in a Saturday news release.
The owner moved away from the vehicle and called police, who responded with their tactical support team.
The 31-year-old man was taken into custody without incident, police said. They seized an imitation air pistol and a machete.
The man was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon, as well as three counts of possession of a firearm, restricted/prohibited weapon or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order.
He was also charged with mischief under $5,000, and failure to comply with probation and release orders.
