U of Manitoba professors, librarians reach tentative agreement with university administration
U of M Faculty Association members will vote on the deal next Thursday

A union representing professors, librarians and instructors at the University of Manitoba reached a tentative agreement with the university's administration early Saturday morning.
The University of Manitoba Faculty Association, which represents approximately 1,300 members, set a bargaining deadline for Thursday with a potential strike to start on Monday.
Union members will now vote to approve the deal next week on Thursday, said president Erik Thomson in a news release.
The tentative agreement with the university's administration ensures students will be able to continue their term uninterrupted, Thomson said. More details on the agreement will be released to members next week, he said.
Members have been without a contract since their collective agreement expired on March 31, 2024, and have been demanding salary increases, better hiring practices and access to child-care services.
The union's members went on strike for five weeks in 2021 and for three weeks in 2016.
The tentative agreement reflects the University of Manitoba's commitment to supporting a "fair and competitive deal" for faculty members and their hard work throughout this process, the university's administration said in a statement.
