A 32-year-old man is charged with attempted murder after a man was shot in Winnipeg's West End on Sunday night.

The man was arrested Monday night in the city's North End after police tracked him to a vehicle in the area. A loaded handgun was found in the car.

In addition to attempted murder, the man is charged with numerous firearms offences and failure to comply with a probation order.

Police don't know the motive for the shooting but say the men knew each other and the incident was not random.

Officers were called around 9:50 p.m. on Sunday to the alley between Sherbrook and Maryland streets, behind the Safeway store on Sargent Avenue.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with injuries to his upper body and remains in critical condition.

Police taped off the alley and a vacant lot into Monday afternoon.
