A man was found dead in a Winnipeg home after police were called by concerned neighbours.

Officers went to the two-storey house on Alexander Avenue near Isabel Street around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. A police spokesperson wouldn't elaborate on why the neighbours were worried, other than saying the house was "not secured."

The man was located inside but police are not saying much more.

No information has been provided on the man's age, if he was injured in any way, or whether he lived at the home, in the Centennial neighbourhood.

Police would only say "the circumstances surrounding the male's death are suspicious" and as a result, the Homicide Unit is investigating.

The home is surrounded in yellow police tape and an officer at the scene on Wednesday morning said investigators could be there for a couple of days yet.

The home is across the street from Dufferin elementary school but it is not affecting classes.

"Police have informed us that the situation is contained and there is not currently a threat to the school," said Winnipeg School Division spokesperson Radean Carter.

Anyone with information about the incident are asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
