Office tower connected to police HQ needs repairs
City of Winnipeg asks for bids to repair exterior cladding on building attached to police headquarters
The City of Winnipeg is asking contractors to bid on repairs to an office tower connected to the new police headquarters on Graham Avenue.
The building at 266 Graham Ave. underwent massive construction so it could meet safety standards associated with being a police building. The project is now more than $75 million over budget, is the subject of an RCMP investigation into its handling and has been delayed by more than a year.
It was originally supposed to be ready for use in January 2014, but Winnipeg police still have not fully moved into the building from the old Public Safety Building on Princess Street.
Now, the City of Winnipeg is calling for bids to replace "exterior cladding" on the office tower connected to the headquarter building that was damaged during heavy winds on Jan. 22.
The work is expected to take 10 to 12 weeks to complete and won't start until next month.
The City also has to replace transformers that were damaged during a major rain storm in August 2014.
