Three ceremonies in Manitoba are being held to mark the National Day of Honour, paying tribute to the men and women who served Canada during the 12-year military mission in Afghanistan.
Three ceremonies in Manitoba are being held to mark the National Day of Honour, paying tribute to the men and women who served Canada during the 12-year military mission in Afghanistan.
Some 40,000 fought and 158 died during the mission, which officially ended in March, when Canadian troops took down the flag at the NATO headquarters in Kabul.

"There's some of us that didn't come back so that's why this day is important to us — to remember those who really made the ultimate sacrifice," said Maj. Lisa Baspaly, who served in Afghanistan in 2007 and again in 2011.
She attended a ceremony Friday at Air Force Heritage Park in Winnipeg.
Other ceremonies were held at CFB Shilo just east of Brandon, and at Brookside Cemetery in Winnipeg.
