Men from Manitoba, Ontario charged following tobacco seizure north of Toronto

Ontario Provincial Police say two men — one from northwestern Ontario and the other from Manitoba — are facing charges following a large contraband tobacco seizure.

The Ministry of Transportation requested police help on Wednesday morning during the inspection of a truck on Highway 400 north of Toronto, according to OPP.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said Friday over 30 boxes containing more than 300,000 contraband cigarettes were discovered inside the vehicle.

OPP said Paul Douglas Gallagher, 52, of Thunder Bay, Ont., is charged with trafficking in contraband tobacco.

Brendan Hall, 36, of Fort Alexander, Man., is charged with trafficking in contraband tobacco and obstructing a peace officer.
