Former Winnipeg writer Miriam Toews shortlisted for Giller Prize

Former Winnipegger Miriam Toews has been shortlisted for the prestigious Giller Prize.

Former Winnipegger Miriam Toews has been shortlisted for the prestigious Giller Prize. 

Toews, who now lives in Toronto, is among six authors vying for the top prize of $100,000.

Each finalist will receive $10,000.

The pot was doubled this year to $140,000 in honour of the late Doris Giller, wife of Toronto businessman Jack Rabinovitch, who established the prize in 1994.

The other authors shortlisted are:

  • David Bezmozgis for "The Betrayers"
  • Frances Itani for "Tell"
  • Sean Michaels for "Us Conductors"
  • Heather O’Neill for "The Girl Who Was Saturday Night" 
  • Padma Viswanathan for "The Ever After of Ashwin Rao"
