Pedestrian dead after crash on Pembina Highway in Winnipeg
Driver remained at scene and co-operated with police
A woman is dead after she was hit by a car in south Winnipeg, near the Perimeter Highway.
Emergency crews were called just after 10 p.m. Wednesday to Pembina Highway, near the Perimeter interchange. The woman was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later pronounced dead, police said in a news release.
The northbound lanes of Pembina were shut down for several hours, reopening shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday.
"When it comes to a fatality, the investigation is far more involved," police spokesperson Const. Jason Michalyshen said.
The woman's age has not been released by police, who only called her an adult.
The 21-year-old man driving the car remained at the scene and co-operated with investigators, said Michalyshen, who was unable to say if any charges are pending.
