Woman dead, man injured in hit-and-run by pickup truck in central Manitoba

A 24-year-old woman was killed and a 23-year-old man left with non-life-threatening injuries after they were hit while walking on the side of the main road through Berens River, Man.

A 24-year-old woman was killed and a 23-year-old man left with non-life-threatening injuries after they were hit while walking on the side of the main road through Berens River, Man.

A pickup truck hit the two people around 9:30 p.m. on April 17, then sped away from the scene, RCMP said in a news release on Wednesday.

A man police believe was driving the truck was later arrested, RCMP said.

The 42-year-old from Berens River faces charges of dangerous driving causing death and driving while prohibited.

RCMP continue to investigate with the help of a forensic collision reconstructionist.

Berens River is located along the eastern shore of Lake Winnipeg, about 265 kilometres north of Winnipeg.
