The flood forecast in Fargo, N.D., has been downgraded once again.

The expected crest was dropped by three feet (one metre) on Sunday, after being lowered by a foot on Friday.

Officials scaled the expected crest back from 41 feet to 40 feet on Friday, and now have it pegged at 37 feet.

The only concern now is if the city gets more than a half inch of rain in the next short while, said Fargo's deputy mayor Tim Mahoney.

"We are still protected to 40 feet throughout the city so we will do fine. But that would be the only concern we have," he said.

"It would be two to four inches [of rain] that would give us a little bit of trouble, because that would come into the river right away."

There is no word on what impact the new forecast will have on flood preparations north of the border in Manitoba.
