How to honour residential school survivors this Orange Shirt Day

To mark Orange Shirt Day, Wa-Say Healing Centre is hosting a healing walk and celebratory powwow in downtown Winnipeg.

Join us on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation: Saturday, Sept. 30.

 Join Wa-Say Healing Centre and CBC Manitoba on Saturday, Sept. 30 as we mark Orange Shirt Day. On the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation, Wa-Say Healing Centre is hosting a walk and powwow in downtown Winnipeg. This event offers a time to reflect on the harms caused by residential schools while also celebrating Indigenous cultures here in Treaty One. Healing walk

Show your support for survivors of residential schools by attending the healing walk. 

Oodena Circle, The Forks

  • 9 a.m. - Gather at Oodena Circle
  • 10 a.m. - Pipe ceremony
  • 10:30 a.m. - Opening remarks
  • 11 a.m. - Walk departs for Canada Life Centre

Celebrate Indigenous dancing, music and traditional regalia at the Orange Shirt Day powwow. 

Canada Life Centre at 300 Portage Ave., Winnipeg

  • 1 p.m. - Grand entry
  • 1:45 p.m. - Speeches
  • 2 p.m. - Inter-tribals and specials
  • 2:45 p.m. - Presenting special guests with star blankets
  • 4 p.m. - Inter-tribals and specials
  • 5:45 p.m. - Closing remarks

September 30th is Orange Shirt Day. It's also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Learn all about this important day and how it came to be.
[ Orange Shirt Day] recognizes the tragic legacy of residential schools, the missing children, the families left behind and honours the survivors. By wearing an Orange Shirt, we raise awareness of how during the residential school period, personal belongings such as clothing and with it culture and freedom, were taken away from children and multiple generations after them.-Wa-Say Healing Centre
