A Brandon woman has been charged after police say her ailing mother died as a result of her medical care being halted.

Between June and November 2014, the woman stopped her mother's medical care because she believed in alternative forms of therapy, Brandon police said Thursday.

The mother became increasingly ill and Brandon police intervened after being called by other family members.

The mother was taken to hospital but later died.

The 58-year-old woman was arrested on Wednesday and charged with failing to provide the necessaries of life to a person under her charge.

She will appear in court in August.
