2 more Manitobans going to Rio Olympics
Justin Duff and Toon Van Lankvelt will head to Brazil this summer
More Manitobans are heading to the Rio Olympics this summer.
The Canadian men's volleyball team qualified for the Summer Olympics for the first time in 24 years on Sunday, punching their ticket at a last-chance Olympic qualifier over the weekend.
Five Manitobans play on the team — Dustin Schneider from Brandon, Jason DeRocco from East St. Paul, Winnipegger Justin Duff, T.J. Sanders, and Toon Van Lankvelt from Rivers, Man., but only Duff and Lankvelt will be going to Rio.
In addition, Larry McKay, one of the team's coaches, is a University of Manitoba graduate who coaches and teaches at the University of Winnipeg.
The athletes were recognized Wednesday in the Manitoba Legislature.
Canada will play in the same pool as the top-ranked home team, Brazil.
