Calling all nature lovers! Nature in the City series returns to London
Presentations are happening Tuesday nights at Wolf Performance Hall
The Nature in the City speaker series is returning to downtown London Tuesday, featuring six consecutive talks on topics such as night sky photography, environmental law, sighting wildlife and the wonder of chimney swifts.
The series, which first launched in 2006, is free to attend on Tuesday evenings from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Wolf Performance Hall. Each session features a speaker discussing topics related to nature within the City of London.
"Many people don't realize the abundance of nature we have right here in London," said Kathleen Holland, the committee chair for Nature in the City. "The Thames River attracts a rich diversity of wildlife, making our city a haven for nature lovers."
The Nature in the City series includes:
- January 21: The Universe from Your Backyard is a presentation by Ryan Fraser, a photographer who captures stunning images of the night sky all visible from within the city.
- January 28: Brian Salt from Salt Haven will discuss the rehabilitation of orphaned or injured animals that come through their facility.
- February 4: Environmental lawyer Jacob Damstra will talk about navigating environmental law and regulations across various levels of government.
- February 11: Daria Kosinski, the CEO of Thames Talbot Land Trust, will present Climate Action Superhero, a talk about nature-based climate solutions people can support.
- February 18: Kathleen Holland will be presenting The Wild Side of London, where she'll explore how to spot wildlife beyond common animals like squirrels and geese on our extensive trail network.
- February 25: Winnie Wake, a member of Nature London, will discuss the amazing birds, chimney swifts, along with their role in the ecosystem and the challenges they currently face.
"I hope attendees gain a deeper appreciation and awareness of topics they might not have explored before," said Holland.
"Each presenter is an expert in their field and brings their subject to life through videos, slides and accessible language. The goal is to make nature relatable and inspiring for everyone."
The events are free to Londoners of all ages and seating is first come, first serve. For more information, visit the Nature London website.
The Nature in the City series is co-sponsored by Nature London and the London Public Library.
