House that withstood Saguenay floods survives fire

It stood against the raging waters of the Saguenay in 1996, and has now been licked by fire, but a little white house in Chicoutimi still stands after a possible arson attack on Tuesday.

The house became a symbol of the floods in Quebec's Saguenay region after pictures of it standing amid torrents of water were shown on television and in newspapers around the world.

On Tuesday night, firefighters saved the tourist attraction from a fire.

In 1996, the Saguenay region about 250 kilometres north of Quebec City flooded, driving 12,000 people from their homes. Seven people were killed.

Damages were estimated at $600 million.
