Police say officers and paramedics responded to a call at roughly 5:30 p.m., about a collision at the intersection of Sherman Avenue and Clinton Street.
"A male driver was northbound on Sherman Avenue turning right onto Clinton Street when a four-year-old boy darted from the sidewalk and was struck as the vehicle passed," read a media release.
Police say the child was taken to a local pediatric hospital where he is now in serious, but non-life threatening condition.
Officers say speed and impairment have been ruled out as factors in the collision.
