Niagara police are trying to track down a man who they say was firing an airsoft rife inside a St. Catharines mall on Saturday afternoon.

Police were called to the Fairview Mall around 2:40 p.m., after getting reports about a man using an airsoft rifle inside the mall.

Witnesses told the investigators that the man had been firing the weapon in a hallway near the east entrance, by a Dollarama.

"The male was not pointing the weapon at mall patrons; however, the weapon was discharged at least two times within the mall," a police news release reads.

The suspect is described as a white man, around 17 to 19-years-old, with medium build. He was wearing a red baseball cap, a black shirt and pants, and a bright blue backpack and thick-rimmed glasses.

He was last seen walking through the mall parking lot by Food Basics.
