Police make 8 drug trafficking arrests in Mountain neighbourhood

Police arrested 8 people on offenses relating to drug trafficking early Wednesday afternoon. They seized just shy of $50,000 worth of drugs.

Almost $50,000 worth of drugs and weapons were seized under a search warrant

Hamilton police executed a search warrant Wednesday that led to the arrests of 8 people on drug trafficking and other criminal charges.

At around 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, a team of officers searched two homes on East 23rd Street, police say. They were acting on the suspicion that the homes were being used for drug trafficking and dealing.

In addition to arresting eight people, their press release reports they seized:

  • Over 600 grams of marijuana with an estimated street value of $12,000
  • Over 170 grams of cocaine with an estimated street value of $17,000
  • Over $11,000 in cash (proceeds of crime)
  • Over 30 Oxycodone tablets with an estimated value of $200
  • Several marijuana plants with an estimated value of $6,000
  • Ammunition and other weapons
  • Various items of suspected stolen property
  • Other evidence including mobile phones, scales and packaging used for the sale of illegal drugs

Police say they laid the following charges:

  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking marijuana
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking oxycodone
  • Production of marijuana
  • Proceeds of crime – over $5000
  • Possession of stolen property
  • Possession of ammunition while prohibited
