70-year-old Hamilton man and his dog killed in hit-and-run crash: police
Officers were called to the area near Lawrence Road and Hillside Avenue Sunday
Hamilton police are searching for a white Chevrolet with front-end damage after a 70-year-old man and his dog were hit and killed in the east end on Sunday night.
Const. Indy Bharaj said police were called to Lawrence Road and Cochrane Road, a few blocks west of where the Redhill Parkway meets King Street, following reports of a collision.
In a release issued Monday, police said they believe the man and his three-year-old dog were crossing Lawrence Road around 8:30 p.m. when the driver of an eastbound vehicle hit them both, then fled.
Officers found the victim and his dog on the ground when they arrived.
Police say the man had serious, life-threatening injuries and was taken to Hamilton General Hospital, but died shortly after arriving there. The dog succumbed to its injuries at the scene.
Police blocked off the area until 2:13 a.m. Monday, Bharaj says, noting the collision reconstruction unit is investigating.
Investigators said they are looking for the driver of "a white Chevrolet" vehicle with "notable" front-end damage, but did not immediately provide more information about the suspect vehicle.
