Burlington got two months of rain in just a few hours on Monday evening.

The Burlington Community Foundation received 310 claims related to floods this summer while the community raised just over $900,000 to support flood victims.

The foundation's flood disaster relief committee announced the totals Tuesday, a day after the Dec. 15 deadline for claims and donations.

Two months' worth of rain fell in just one night in August.

The provincial government will match the $905,000 raised by the foundation with $2 for every dollar raised, for a total relief fund of about $2.9 million.

Now the foundation must process the claims, including a large number that were filed in the final two weeks before the deadline, the foundation said. People who filed claims should expect a letter from the foundation committee stating the status of their claim and how much money they will receive if it's approved. Cheques are expected to be sent out between Jan. 15 and March 15, 2015.

Now we are moving from raising funds to sharing funds and we are extremely pleased to start providing the money that has been raised in Burlington for our fellow neighbours,” said Colleen Mulholland, President and CEO of the Burlington Community Foundation.
