1 person dead following shooting in St. Catharines, Ont.

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) says officers responded to a shooting in the area of Carlton Street and Athlone Place around 3:40 a.m. ET. Monday.

A man has died following a shooting in St. Catharines, Ont., on Monday morning, police said.

The Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) said officers responded to a shooting in the area of Carlton Street and Athlone Place around 3:40 a.m. ET.

"When officers arrived, they located an adult male inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds," police said in a news release.

The man was moved to a hospital, where he later died, police said.

The area surrounding the intersection will be closed for part of the day, NRPS said, and there will be a "heavy police presence."

The NRPS said homicide detectives are investigating. No arrests have been made as of Monday morning.
