2 men in hospital after downtown Hamilton shooting on Sunday, police say
Officers on scene found two 24-year-old men with gunshot wounds near Club 77
Hamilton Police Service (HPS) is investigating a downtown shooting that sent two people to hospital.
The service said in a media release officers responded to the shooting near Club 77, a night club by King William Street and John Street North, at roughly 1:45 a.m., on Sunday, Oct. 15.
Officers on scene found two 24-year-old men with gunshot wounds, police said.
Both men were taken to the hospital, according to police. One man was in stable condition while the other was in critical condition.
HPS spokesperson Jackie Penman told CBC Hamilton officers believe the shooting was targeted, but didn't offer details about why.
She also didn't offer more details about any potential motives.
Many people outside the club during the shooting, police say
Penman said officers haven't recovered any weapons.
The service also said there is no information on the suspects or vehicles involved — despite the fact there were many witnesses.
"There were many people outside of the club at the time of the shooting. Many fled the area prior to police arrival," Penman said.
Police also want residents, businesses or anyone driving in the area to review any security or dashcam footage they have between 1 and 2 a.m.
Penman said people have been calling with video to offer to officers.
The service said there would be a "heavy police presence" in the area while officers look for video and details about the shooting.
There have been 21 shootings in Hamilton this year, according to police.
