Former residential school destroyed by fire

Two people have been arrested after an old residential school in the St. Albert area burned to the ground.

The RCMP say the former residential school, near the Poundmakers Lodge treatment centre, was consumed by fire and reduced to just the shell.

Firefighters from Saint Albert, Morninville, Gibbons, Bon Accord and Edmonton Garrison helped fight the blaze.

There were two explosions during the fire including a propane explosion, but no firefighters were injured.

Police say the fire is being investigated as arson. An adult male and a youth found near the scene have been taken into custody.
