Controversy erupts over Metis elections
A new controversy is brewing within the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan.
The organization has overturned some of the results from an election held 2 months ago.
The elections of Vice President, Robert Doucette, and three area directors were quashed.
Doucette is an opponent of Metis President, Clem Chartier.
A lawyer for the Metis election commission, Dwayne Roth, says there were signs the election in Prince Albert was not fair.
"The deputy returning officer evicting some of his scrutineers, allowing election campaign ads to be played at the polling station, allowing supporters of one candidate to come in a raise a rucas all of those kinds of thing", says Roth.
Doucette and the others removed by the commission are calling on Metis Legislative Assembly to review the ruling.
They claim the members of the commission have never been properly endorsed by the Metis Assembly.
