Calgary police say death of a woman in Temple is a homicide
Police have identified the victim as Jamie Lynn Scheible, 23
The family of a 23-year-old woman found with an apparent gunshot wound Thursday night in northeast Calgary are devastated by the loss of a "beautiful, free-spirited" person.
Police say the death of Jamie Lynn Scheible is being investigated as a homicide.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Templeview Drive N.E at about 7:15 p.m. for reports of gunshots, police said.
They found an unconscious woman in medical distress. She was taken to Foothills hospital but later died from her injuries.
"We continue to investigate this fatal shooting and the motivation has yet to be determined," said Staff Sgt. Martin Schiavetta.
"Our investigators believe this was a targeted incident and do not believe it to be random."
In a statement shared by police, Scheible's family described her as "beautiful, free-spirited, quirky and funny, and always brought a smile to our faces."
They said she was a loving person who was always helping others.
"She is beloved by many friends, and was the best mother, big sister, daughter and granddaughter. We adore her and are overwhelmed with grief."
This is the city's 10th homicide this year.
