STORY UPDATE, AUG. 15: Investigators located the stolen white Volvo that was seen in the area of the shooting, police said in a release.
Calgary police have identified the victim of the fatal shooting outside Market Mall over the weekend.
The deceased is Danny Truong, 23, a Calgary resident.
Police say his death marks the 12th homicide in the city this year.
"It is extremely concerning that such a brazen and unnecessary act of violence occurred in the middle of the afternoon in a public space, endangering Calgarians who were going about their day," acting Staff Sgt. Lee Treit said in a release.
"We believe this is a targeted incident, and that there is no outstanding risk to the public. We are asking anyone who may have information about this incident to contact police immediately."
Police are still trying to locate a 2015 white Volvo XC60 that was seen in the mall parking lot at the time of the shooting.
The car was reported stolen on Thursday.
Police note it was missing the gas cap, located on the passenger side.
The car was last seen travelling on Shaganappi Trail N.W., approaching Crowchild Trail, shortly after the shooting.
Police say the registered owner of the vehicle is co-operating with investigators.
Anyone who was near Market Mall around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday who may have dashcam video is asked to contact police.
Police are also asking anyone who may have dashcam video in the vicinity of the Side Street Pub and Grill, located at 1167 Kensington Cres. N.W., between 2 a.m. on Wednesday and 12 p.m. on Thursday, to contact investigators.
Anyone with information can contact police by calling 403-266-1234. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or calgarycrimestoppers.org.
Police said the Market Mall incident is not connected to another shooting that occurred at Deerfoot City over the weekend.
