Calgary police are investigating the "suspicious" death of a baby boy who died Monday afternoon.

"Because the cause of death has not yet been determined, it is being treated as suspicious," said police in a statement.

CBC News has learned that the Calgary boy was less than a month old. An autopsy will be conducted later this week.

The police homicide unit is looking into the incident, which was reported to police Monday morning by the Alberta Children's Hospital.

No further details were provided.

"At this time, there is limited information regarding the circumstances of this death and investigators are working to determine the events leading up to the child being taken to the hospital," police said.
