Man dies in Bow River rafting trip

A man from Sherwood Park, just outside of Edmonton, has died during a whitewater rafting trip near Canmore.

Tyler Swaren, 33, was on a company rafting trip on the Bow River on Saturday, when he and eight other riders were dumped into the water — twice.

During the second spill, Swaren was unconscious when he surfaced and efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.

He was wearing a helmet, wetsuit and a life jacket.

The rapids the group was running were classified to be Class 3, which is considered novice to intermediate.

Swaren was a environmental consultant with Matrix Solutions Inc.
