Man found stabbed to death in southwest Calgary

A homicide investigation is underway after a stabbed man was found lying on a road in the Manchester industrial area in southwest Calgary early Thursday morning.

A homicide investigation is underway after a stabbed man was found lying on a road in the Manchester industrial area in southwest Calgary early Thursday morning.

Officers were called to the 5500 block of Second Street S.W. in the Manchester industrial area at about 3 a.m. for reports of an assault, police said in a release.

They found a man, believed to be in his 30s, lying between two parked cars and suffering from stab wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

Calgary police said a person of interest was detained at Foothills hospital.

"The investigation is in the early stages and homicide unit investigators continue to speak to numerous witnesses," the release said.

Police have cordoned off a section of 55th Avenue between Macleod Trail and Second Street S.W.
