Environment Canada is advising people to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat.

"The precautions include doing outdoor activities later in the day, taking frequent breaks, drinking lots of water and never leaving people or pets in a closed vehicle," they said.

These hot temperatures will continue through the week with a cooling trend expected by Saturday.

With two weeks remaining in August, the city is having its warmest month since official records started, according to Calgary Weather Records, a Twitter account that uses government data. The mean temperature so far in August is 20.2 C.

The record was set in July 2007 when the median temperature for the month was 19.84 C.
