Suspected fentanyl superlab discovered south of Calgary
Search warrants executed across Alberta as part of investigation
A suspected fentanyl superlab located at a rural location south of Calgary is being dismantled as part of an ongoing investigation, according to a release from a provincial joint-forces agency.
A release issued Friday by Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) states that it conducted three search warrants on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation into large-scale fentanyl production.
Search locations included homes and businesses in Edmonton and Calgary.
One of those locations involved the rural location, where several suspects were arrested. ALERT said more arrests are pending.
"A wide variety of chemicals used in the production of fentanyl, and manufactured fentanyl, are in the process of being analyzed," the agency said in a release. "The process is expected to last several days."
The Calgary Police Service, Edmonton Police Service, RCMP and clandestine laboratory response teams are all involved in the effort, the agency said.
No further information is available at this time, the agency said, and more details will be provided at a later date.
Those who suspect drug and gang activity in their communities are encouraged to call local police or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
