Calgary police charge man in fatal Stoney Trail hit and run
25-year-old man faces two charges after leaving scene of collision
Calgary Police have charged 25-year-old Gaganpreet Singh with hit and run and hit and run causing death after a collision on Stoney Trail killed a woman in her 50s late Tuesday night.
The crash happened around 11:50 p.m. in Calgary's northwest on southbound Stoney Trail near the Nose Hill Drive interchange.
The woman, driving a white 2019 Toyota Corolla, was heading south in a lane close to the median, police said in a release.
The Corolla was struck by a vehicle, believed to be a semi-truck and trailer combination, which left the scene, police said.
Following an investigation by the CPS traffic unit, with assistance from the public, a semi-truck was located in Rocky View Country and identified as the vehicle that fled the collision site. After identifying the vehicle, police say Singh was charged.
Following the initial crash, a roadway maintenance truck with two occupants arrived on the scene and began giving medical aid to the injured woman.
According to police, shortly after the maintenance truck arrived, a black 2018 Dodge Ram truck struck a post and cable barrier in the median and then struck the woman.
She was taken to hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Singh is scheduled to appear in court on Friday, April 4.
