Calgary homicide detectives are still investigating the deaths of two women found in a home in the northeast community of Coventry Hills.

Officers responded to a check-on-welfare call in the 200 block of Coventry Close N.E. around 10 a.m. MT on Monday, where they discovered the bodies inside the home.

Duty Insp. Ryan Ayliffe speaks to reporters about the suspicious deaths.

Autopsies are underway on both women: one is in her 50s and the other is in her 20s.

Duty Insp. Ryan Ayliffe said on Tuesday the deaths are not believed to be the result of a random attack, but had little other information to share.

"It's very early in the investigation, so we're going through a number of investigative processes," he said.

"We're talking to people in the community, people who are familiar, friends and family of people potentially that may be involved and they're being co-operative."

The victims' identities and causes of death will be confirmed after the autopsies are complete.

Ayliffe said he couldn't confirm the number of people living in the house or the nature of the relationship between the residents.

'Do we have to be scared?'

Florente Magarro, who lives in the area, was shocked by the news of the two deaths.

"It's very good neighbourhood, and there's a playground there on the corner and there's lots of kids in there playing every day," Magarro said.

Joan Harkness, another area resident, said the lack of information from police so far is concerning.

"Do we have to be scared? Because we don't know what happened," she said.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact police at 403-266-1234 or the homicide unit tip line at 403-428-8877 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
