Charges laid in hit and run at Alta. bar

A 24-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after a fatal hit and run in the parking lot of an Olds, Alta., bar.

A 24-year-old man has been charged with first-degree murder after a fatal hit and run in the parking lot of an Olds, Alta., bar.

Police say a man was thrown out of the Texas Mickey Bar by bar management just after midnight on Friday morning.

Police allege the man then got into a Ford pick-up truck and plowed through a small group of people gathered outside the bar.

Nicholas Baier, 18, of Olds, Alta., was killed. One other person was seriously injured and two other treated in hospital for minor injuries.

Jeffrey Kevin Leinen, 24, of Calgary, is facing numerous charges, including first-degree murder and impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

Leinen is in police custody and is scheduled to appear in Calgary Provincial Court on Monday morning.

Olds is located about 80 kilometres north of Calgary.
