Police say a suspicious death that happened Thursday in the Arbour Lake area, in northwest Calgary, is now being investigated as a homicide.

Around 8:30 p.m. Thursday, first responders were dispatched to a green space behind the 100 block of Arbour Meadows Close N.W., where an injured male was reportedly found.

He was dead upon arrival, police say.

The office of the chief medical examiner identified the victim as 16-year-old Jal Acor Jal, after an autopsy Friday.

"This is a shocking file as the victim is so young," said Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson, of the Calgary Police Services' homicide unit.

"We continue to investigate and are interested in hearing from anyone who may know of the victim's movements and who may have been with him last night."

Police are asking for the public's help, should they have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area between 7 and 9 p.m last Thursday.

The areas of the 100 block of Arbour Meadows Close N.W., the 200 block of Schubert Place N.W. and the 100 and 200 blocks of Scenic View Close N.W. are of specific interest to police.

Those who live in the areas are being asked to check their properties for anything suspicious and share any available dashcam footage.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police non-emergency number at 403-266-1234 or reach anonymously out to Crime Stoppers.
