Calgary police investigating hate-motivated incident at Jewish Community Centre
Man was throwing eggs and making antisemitic comments, CPS said
Calgary police are looking for a man believed to be responsible for a hate-motivated crime in the city's southwest on Tuesday.
At around 2:30 p.m., police were called to the Calgary Jewish Community Centre for several reports of a man making antisemitic comments.
"The man was throwing eggs at vehicles, the Holocaust Memorial Monument and the building, while shouting antisemitic profanities at individuals outside of the centre," police said in a statement.
The man fled the scene before police arrived.
Police describe the man as being between the ages of 20 and 30 with a slim build. He was wearing a grey hoodie, blue jeans and white running shoes and had a black backpack.
"Hate-motivated crimes are recognizable crimes, like assault, theft, vandalism or any other crime, where the offender was motivated by bias, prejudice or hate that is based on one of nine personal characteristics of the victim," the police statement read.
The police hate-crime prevention team is continuing to investigate the incident and is asking anyone who may have related information to contact the unit.
