Calgary filmmakers add a twist to classic yule log video
The "world premiere" of a familiar festive video, but with a twist, took place in Calgary last night.
Yule Log 2 is a different take on the holiday tradition of a TV program that features a steady shot of logs burning in a fireplace.
But, in this video, the filmmakers add all kinds of objects to the fire.
Greg Holmes, one of the directors, said he and a few friends were watching the yule log video at a pub a few years ago when they got the idea.
"We just said look, let’s do this. Let’s do a yule log and put things in it and see what happens," said Holmes.
"If you’ve ever watched something made of plastic go up in flame, it’s like a visual and auditory — it’s impressive."
It’s the second year the filmmakers have done a video. This year they built a set out near Priddis, Alta. for the shoot.
"We decided to make another one because, really, the possibilities are endless."
Holmes said he and his partner are already planning next year’s video.
"It's been a lot of fun, think people are really going to enjoy it," he said.
"It's an interesting take on the traditional yule log video."
The film had its first showing at Local 510, a bar on 17th Avenue S.W. last night.
