Calgary police are investigating a homicide after a man was fatally assaulted in southwest Calgary Saturday morning.

Police said a man responded to a break-in alarm at his business in the 3800 block of Bow Trail S.W. around 3 a.m.

The man stayed in the parking lot, because he was waiting for his business to be secured, and at around 6 a.m. he was approached by at least three people.

Police said it's believed the three suspects were trying to get into an adjoining cannabis store through the man's business.

The man was fatally injured during the encounter with the suspects. He walked to a nearby business, where emergency crews were called around 6:15 a.m., police said.

He died at the scene.

Police said further details will be released following an autopsy on Monday.

Investigators were looking for information about a black Dodge Caliber with a distinctive chrome gas cap on the driver's side of the car.

Police said the car was captured on CCTV between 3 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. — the time the incident occurred. The car was located on Sunday.
