A local animal rescue society is happy to announce the puppy that was found with severe burns at a Saskatchewan work camp in November has found a new home just in time for the holidays.

The Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society (AARCS) rescued Nero, a seven-week old puppy, after he was allegedly burned with a hot tar-like substance.

It’s believed something flammable was poured on his face and he was then lit on fire.

Nero was brought to Calgary for treatment. He lost both ears and will need eye surgery.

The Seth family of Okotoks were chosen from the many applicants who wanted to adopt Nero.

“We are ecstatic that Nero will have a home for Christmas and we couldn’t ask for a better home,” said AARCS executive director Deanna Thompson.

The family currently has two adopted AARCS dogs and occasionally volunteers as a foster home with the group. They said if Nero wants a job they would like him to become a therapy dog.

Meanwhile AARCS, along with a number of donors, have posted a $5,000 reward leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who committed the "heinous crime."
