A man and a woman have been charged in what police call a "violent crime spree" in the Airdrie area, police said in a news release Saturday.

A 31-year-old-woman and a 33-year-old man were arrested after midnight Thursday when they were found in a stolen vehicle.

They were released pending a court appearance.

Police were later called to a motel on Airdrie's Edmonton Trail at roughly 4:30 p.m. where the pair is believed to have stabbed a man but then fled the scene.

The couple then assaulted an Airdrie restaurant manager after eating a meal and trying to leave without paying for it, police say.

The pair was picked up in Calgary in a second stolen vehicle around 9:40 p.m.

The man and woman, of no fixed address, were returned to Airdrie and are facing charges of armed robbery, aggravated assault, uttering threats and forcible confinement.

They are scheduled to appear in court Sept. 29 and are currently out on bail.
