A day at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo
The cosplay celebration features comics, Q & A's, celebrity guests and more
This weekend you can find Supergirl, Obi Wan Kenobi and Brendan Fraser all under the same roof in Calgary.
The Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo has returned to Stampede Park after being cancelled in 2020 and held with limited programming in 2021.
The four day event gives attendees the opportunity to dress up as and see their favourite characters from the world of comics, sci-fi, horror, anime and gaming.
Fans can get a photo with, or autograph from those involved in some of their favourite productions.
This year's guests include actor Brendan Fraser, DC Comics artist Tom Grummett and Janet Varney — pictured below — who is the voice of Korra, the lead character of Nickelodeon's animated series, The Legend of Korra.
At Q & A sessions, fans can ask questions that have been on their minds about their favourite pieces of media to the people most capable of answering them.
Mattie, also known as Mithril Cosplays — pictured below — sells jewlery and t-shirts for fans and cosplayers.
"As a vendor it is so cool to be able to see the background and what goes into creating such an awesome atmosphere, so it's been quite enjoyable this year'" she said.
More than just a fun day out, events like the expo are big business for those who set up shop there.
Mattie says business has "been a little quiet," with many fan conventions like this cancelled due to the pandemic, so she's glad to be back.
Cosplayers were cheered on as they showed off their costumes and posed for the camera on the cosplay red carpet.
The event is an all ages affair, with young and old alike sharing their love for all things comics and entertainment.
Attendees were treated to screenings of anime and other shows and had the chance to rest their feet in different breakout rooms.
The expo is tiring work and even ninja have to eat. Self described "anime and cosplay lovers" Mario and Leo take a snack break on the floor.
