A woman has died in Vancouver's West End, in what police say is the city's 17th homicide of the year.

The victim was found dead inside an apartment near Harwood and Jervis streets at about 4 p.m., according to a press release.

There were other uninjured people in the suite, but investigators are considering them witnesses.

A suspect is believed to have fled the scene before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made.

Investigators do not believe this was a random attack.

This was the second homicide in under 24 hours in the city. Thursday night, a man in his 30s was fatally stabbed near Commercial Drive.
