Man charged over crash that caused death of toddler in downtown Vancouver
Father was carrying 23-month-old daughter when car jumped curb after collision in July 2021
A man has been charged in connection with a crash that caused the death of a toddler and injured her father in downtown Vancouver last year.
Police on Thursday said Seyed Moshfeghi Zadeh, 30, faces two criminal charges in relation to the crash on July 6, 2021.
A black Ford Escape crashed into a black McLaren sports car shortly after 6 p.m. PT at the intersection of Smithe and Hornby streets, near the courthouse downtown.
One of the cars jumped the sidewalk, hitting a man who was holding his 23-month-old toddler. The child, Ocean Oshi Noelle, was killed instantly.
Police said the father was left with "life-altering injuries."
The girl's mother, Star J., said in an interview she was just coming home from work when she witnessed the crash.
CBC News agreed to not publish the family members' last names to protect their privacy.
Police said Zadeh has been charged with one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death and one count of dangerous operation of a conveyance causing bodily harm.
