GT Hiring Solutions' Barbara Davidson: medical marijuana jobs offer diversity in resources-driven community
Medical cannabis company Tilray is looking to create 275 more jobs in Nanaimo, B.C. and will host an information session through GT Hiring Solutions next Friday for anyone interested in the opportunities.
"They are going to be looking for a wide range of jobs from customer service, janitorial, security as well as — to be expected —the horticultural and cultivating jobs," said Barbara Davidson, GT Hiring Solutions' Employment Service Centre Manager in Nanaimo.
The budding industry in medical marijuana on Vancouver Island is welcome news in light of the closure of retail stores Target, Mexx and Sony on the island, and across the country.
Davidson said Tilray already employs more than 100 people on Vancouver Island and the new jobs will be created once it completes construction of a new facility on the island.
"It's nice to see some different types of jobs, certainly in Nanaimo, as any of the heavy resource-based sectors throughout B.C.," she said.
"It's good to see some diversity coming about that gives people an opportunity to work in their home community."
The jobs information session will take place on January 30, between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. PT at GT Hiring Solutions' Brooks Landing location, at 2000 North Island Highway #255 in Nanaimo, B.C.
