Surrey RCMP appeal to public for information about suspected voter fraud
So far, no individuals have come forward, police say
Surrey RCMP are continuing to investigate concerns about possible wrongdoing in the city's mail ballot registration process for the 2018 civic election.
In a release, police have asked that any potential victims come forward as soon as possible.
On Monday, Surrey's chief election officer Anthony Capuccinello Iraci said he had "sufficient cause to suspect illegal activity" around the mail ballot process in the lead up to the Oct. 20 municipal election.
Capuccinello Iraci said it was too early in the voting process for any harm to have been done.
So far, RCMP have only received third-party allegations of any wrongdoing in the election process, but no individuals have come forward saying that they have been victimized.
"It is extremely important that we receive first-hand complaints from any individuals who may have been victimized so we can properly investigate these incidents," Cpl. Elenore Sturko said in the release.
"We understand the time-sensitivity of this situation and have dedicated a significant number of resources and a new tip line to this investigation so the citizens of Surrey can be confident in the election process."
If you believe you have been victimized or unduly coerced for votes or personal information for voting purposes, call the dedicated phone line at 604-599-7848.
