RCMP investigating 2 incidents of men in white vans approaching children in Prince George
Police urge parents to talk to children about safety around strangers
Police are investigating two reports of adult men approaching children in the Hart neighbourhood of Prince George, B.C.
In the first case, two men in an older white cargo van with no rear windows were seen approaching a nine-year-old boy around 8 a.m. PT Monday.
They reportedly told the boy their keys were broken and they needed his help. The boy ran away and the van departed.
In the second case, on Wednesday morning near Heather Park Elementary school, a man — who does not match the description of the first two — reportedly tried to get two teenage boys into his van by asking for help finding his keys.
Again, the boys ran away and the van departed.
The van in the second report was described as white with something brown covering the windows.
It is unclear whether the cases are related. Police are asking to speak with witnesses, including the two teenage boys.
They are also reminding parents to talk to their children about safety around strangers, and reminding adults that it is inappropriate to approach children they do not know.
